CoPilot Live in the news – March 2010

It’s continued to be an ‘onward March’ for CoPilot Live v8 this month in the media with the launch of several product updates and more online reviews.

IT Pro magazine saw CoPilot Live v8 on iPhone pitched directly against a PND on a road trip to Rouen. CoPilot Live wins out at an early stage, becoming the voice of guidance through out. IT Pro praised the quality of CoPilot’s French mapping and concluded that they wouldn’t be leaving Britain again without CoPilot Live.

In Italy CoPilot Live v8 passed the not inconsiderable test of navigating to Milan on a Google Nexus One.

CoPilot Live v8 also accompanied our US colleague Devon Valenti on a weekend in Boston, providing a useful travel companion for directions on foot, while Live Local Search helped her to find some desperately needed Clam Chowder!

Also in the US, Michael Murdock dubbed CoPilot Live v8 the ‘Safer App’ when pitted directly against AT&T’s off-board navigation solution. Meanwhile ITnerd.com found CoPilot Live v8 to be a ‘breath of fresh air’ when compared with Garmin

Back in the UK, CoPilot Live v8 won MacWorld’s Editor’s Choice for May with a five star rating, described as ‘Another trick up iPhone’s sleeve’. CoPilot Live also triumphed in T3′s group test of  Sat Nav for every platform. ‘What Car’ magazine judged CoPilot Live simply as ‘Something that drivers simply cannot do without’.

March saw several significant announcements in the mobile navigation industry too. The beginning of the month saw Vodafone annoucing the closure of it’s own-brand Wayfinder navigation service, depite having paid around $30m for Wayfinder barely a year earlier. It seems that the threat of free off-board navigation competitors made it tough to justify charging a premium for similar functionality. While the navigation market remains dynamic and open to change, we still believe that the safest, most reliable sat nav for drivers requires maps to be stored ‘on-board’ the device.

More recently we were pleased to see that Apple has now enables iTune users to gift apps. So if you know someone going away this bank holiday, why not give them a better journey with CoPilot Live?

Finally: vote CoPilot!

With the UK on the threshold of a General Election, we thought it only appropriate to mention that nominations are still open for the TechRadar.com awards, where we’re still in the running for the Best Mobile App. If you’ve voted for us already, many thanks. If not then it’s not too late!

  • I call ask some question about all the copilot I have and some from your cs said was that my copilot 8 is old than 60 days and put the phone down. How can it be over 60 days old as the iPhone I have is just 20 days old. So if copilot 8 comes down in 61 – 18 months you can not help. Can we go back to the old days.

Hello. Do you have CoPilot Live for iPhone now? Do you have a question that we can assist you with? Please post here and we’ll try and help.

      • As my copilot 8 is only 3 weeks old and your c/s do not want to help as it has started to ask me to turn right on a motorway with 6 lane, between two jun. If you can not help than I will be return the software as it not safe to use it and go back to copilot 7 no n96.

  • I have just downloaded CoPilot live for the first time and it’s been great so far, but a sat nav is only as good as its maps. When will regular map updates like MapSure be available in the UK?

The A959 Bypass near Workington has been open for over a year now and is not on the latest map. I checked NAVTEQ’s website and they have it on the web version of their map.

It would also be great to have an option to show ClearTurn 1.5 miles before a junction (you can set it to 1 or 2 miles, and a QWERTY keyboard:)

      Hi John

Glad you look the product so far. In the US, we have created and own the mapping data – MapSure is our way of keeping the product up to date on that territory. In Europe, we use NAVTEQ data which we process regulary.

I will pass your comments on to the development team.

      Regards

      Tim Sergent
